One of the biggest fears of interviewing for a sales job is getting a question that you do not know the answer to. Now sometimes, hiring sales managers will ask you stance on a certain law or key word that has a unique definition behind them. For example, if you were interviewing in healthcare sales and the sales manager asked you what your stance on stark law was, you might think in your mind, I heard of it but don’t know how to answer because, I don’t know what stark law is.
One strategy to use is to ask a question back and ask for clarification. This way you can fish out the definition and give your response based upon his/her response. The best way is to be honest and don’t try to explain something you don’t truly know as your credibility and trustworthiness is ruined if you are caught lying, especially in an interview.
Most sales job interviews will not put you in this weird spot and the best way to prepare yourself is to do research in the industry you are interviewing for and make sure you master the common sales job interview questions and practice how to answer them.
