A sales brag book is a collection of your accomplishments, awards, ranking and basically anything that helps you prove your value when interviewing for a sales job opportunity. This is a very important self marketing tool to have and continually develop as you progress in your career. As a sales manager, when I interview candidates for a position, I truly appreciate it when the candidate takes the time to put something together to show me what they have done in their career up to this point and this tool could be the difference maker between getting the job offer or being passed for the person who did. Every little bit counts and this article will show you what you should include in your sales career brag book.
THE BRAG BOOK
Now the brag book does not have to be a perfectly bound book, but something like a 3 ring binder and a hole puncher will do the job just fine. A few impressive candidates actually had it spiral bounded at the local office supply store and it shows that they go above and beyond what others would do and take their career seriously.
WHAT TO INCLUDE
For this book, I truly don’t judge the book by its cover, but look at what the candidate has to showcase and reveal that impresses me the most. This is your chance to brag about yourself and give proof that you are worth hiring and if hired, you can accomplish great things. Now this list is not a full list but is a good start:
- Awards
- Official Ranking
- Excellent Performance Reviews
- Letter, emails demonstrating how you go above and beyond and take initiative.
- Customer testimonials
- Honors or high G.P.A. (if recent)
- Volunteer letter
- Certificates/ Personal development classes taken
- Letters of Recommendations
- Photos (receiving award, on award trip, etc.- keep it professional and relevant)
