Having a passion for sales and knowing that I have always wanted to be in sales, I don’t understand why sales skills isn’t taught in more colleges and universities. I had to sign up for a few sales classes that fall under a marketing degree, but I don’t want to be in marketing- I want to be in sales!
I think that college students could really benefit from learning sales skills, even if they don’t have an interest in sales. For those interested in a career in sales, having formal education and training in college could really help progress college students and prepare them for their job search in sales.
As a hiring sales manager, I value a sales professional that has experience in sales but for those starting out, having a formal education in sales is respected because exposure and focus in sales training and education tells me that the candidate understands the business of sales, the process and have gained experience by way of education.
To help future and current sales professionals, I will be profiling and highlight schools, programs and formal education opportunities under the “Career Development” category, under “Sales Degrees & Education”, that offer degrees in sales or classes. If you have gone through a sales program or earned a degree in sales, please share your experience and which school you went to.
